Baghdad: The Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee strongly condemned on Wednesday the attacks targeting Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) headquarters, which resulted in the martyrdom of several fighters and injuries to others, as well as material damage to the targeted sites. “The Committee is following with great concern and sorrow the attacks that targeted, at dawn on Wednesday a number of PMF headquarters in the governorates of Baghdad, Wasit, Karbala, Najaf, Babylon, Diwaniyah, Diyala, Salah al-Din, Nineveh, Kirkuk, and Basra, which resulted in the martyrdom of several fighters and injuries to others, in addition to material damage to the targeted sites,” the Committee said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency – INA.

According to Iraqi News Agency, the statement underscored, “The Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee condemns in the strongest terms this heinous aggression, which represents a blatant violation of Iraq’s sovereignty, a serious breach of its national security, and a direct targeting of an official Iraqi security institution operating within the security apparatus and linked to the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, in an attempt to destabilize security and undermine the prestige of the state and its institutions.”

“While extending its deepest condolences and sincere sympathies to the families of the martyrs,’ expressed the Committee. ‘The great sacrifices made by the security forces and the heroes of the Popular Mobilization Forces are appreciated in defending Iraq, its sovereignty, and the security of its people.”

The Committee called on the Iraqi government, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, and the relevant security agencies ‘to conduct an urgent and comprehensive investigation to uncover the circumstances of these attacks, take the necessary measures to protect Iraq’s sovereignty and airspace, hold those responsible accountable, and pursue legal and international diplomatic channels to prevent the recurrence of such violations, thereby preserving Iraq’s security and stability.’

The Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee affirmed ‘its continued commitment to its oversight and legislative role and to following up on this matter with the relevant authorities to ensure the preservation of Iraq’s sovereignty, the protection of its security institutions, and the safety of its citizens and the country’s stability.’
