Baghdad: The Parliamentary Services Alliance bloc pledged to work on passing important laws that have not yet been enacted. The Head of the bloc, MP Mohammed Jamil Al-Mayahi, said in a joint press conference this evening, Monday, “We are facing a real challenge, because the Parliament is the true representative of the Iraqi people, and it is essential that it assume its legislative and oversight role. We do not want any institution to encroach upon the Parliament’s legal and constitutional powers.” He called on the winning political blocs to adhere to the constitutional timelines.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Mayahi emphasized that the day marked a positive beginning for Parliament as it completed constitutional requirements and elected its two deputies. He underscored the importance of adhering to the constitutional timelines for electing the President of the Republic and subsequently tasking the nominee of the largest bloc with forming the Council of Ministers.

Al-Mayahi affirmed that the Services Alliance bloc will earnestly strive to enact several important and crucial laws, including the Popular Mobilization Forces Law. Other significant laws under consideration include the Provincial and Regional Law, which could serve as a replacement for the 2008 law.
