Baghdad: Member of Parliament Haider Al-Fawadi affirmed on Tuesday that confronting the scourge of financial and administrative corruption requires comprehensive political and legislative support for the steps taken by the Prime Minister, stressing the need for Parliament to fulfill its legislative role in supporting oversight bodies.

According to Iraqi News Agency, Al-Fawadi highlighted that negative behaviors and practices have infiltrated some administrative levels, affecting both lower-ranking employees and higher administrative officials, including department heads, directors general, undersecretaries, and ministers. He pointed to the existence of behind-the-scenes agreements that provide protection for corrupt individuals.

He emphasized that the steps taken by the Prime Minister in the fight against corruption are important and necessary, requiring support from all political forces and state institutions to save the country, as financial and administrative corruption threatens the very existence of institutions and impacts more than any one individual.

Al-Fawadi further stated that a system can only be countered by a system that opposes it, stressing the importance of activating the legislative role of the House of Representatives by enacting the necessary laws. This should be done in conjunction with the government submitting the draft laws it needs to facilitate its work.

The MP also called for clarifying and dismantling the obstacles hindering the executive branch’s performance in combating corruption. This support is crucial for the Prime Minister’s campaign and to facilitate the work of the Federal Board of Supreme Audit and the Integrity Commission, enabling them to perform their oversight duties optimally.
