Baghdad: The MP, Hussein Al-Saabari stressed that the continuation of terrorist crimes against civilians in Syria without deterrence poses a threat to international peace and security, calling for urgent international and UN action before it is too late.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Hussein Al-Saabari called, in a press conference today, Saturday, on the international community, the United Nations, and all international and UN human rights and humanitarian bodies to intervene urgently to stop the massacres and brutal violations committed by armed groups against members of sects and minorities in Syria.

He added, “Syrian citizens from sects and minorities have been subjected to brutal attacks, mass killings, and forced displacement, amidst unjustified international silence,” stressing that “these violations constitute a clear breach of international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions that impose the protection of civilians in times of conflict,” calling on the United Nations and the international community to officially condemn these crimes and consider them crimes against humanity, and to immediately investigate through independent international committees to hold those responsible accountable, and to exert diplomatic pressure and impose sanctions on the parties supporting these organizations, and to provide urgent protection to civilians in the targeted areas inhabited by these sects.
