Baghdad: The Parliamentary Strategic Planning and Federal Service Committee announced its intention to host officials from the Baghdad Electricity Distribution Department due to their blatant failure to equip residential areas suffering from a shortage of electricity transformers. Committee member MP Suad Al-Maliki said in a press conference on Sunday, “There is a deadly administrative routine and complex procedures that hinder and disrupt the processing of pending citizen transactions at the Baghdad Electricity Distribution Department, which are required to equip electrical transformers in their residential areas.”

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Maliki highlighted that officials from the Baghdad Electricity Distribution Department deal selectively with citizens’ requests, without taking into account the needs and living conditions of families. She pointed out that there are transactions that have been delayed for more than a year and have become official files for each, despite obtaining a huge amount of approvals to no avail.

Al-Maliki further explained that there are 600 new transformers that the government has equipped, which are still sitting in the warehouses of the Baghdad Electricity Distribution Department. The officials are refraining from equipping residential areas for citizens to end their suffering with electricity due to personal moods, favoritism, and self-interested relationships. She noted that the committee is about to host officials of the Baghdad Distribution Department next week to address this defect and find solutions to the suffering of citizens and their families.
