Baghdad: The Parliamentary Finance Committee has disclosed the reasons for the delay in transmitting the tables of the Federal General Budget Law from the government to the Council of Representatives.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Member of the committee, MP Jamal Kojer, explained that the government had sent the draft amendment to the General Budget Law over three months ago to the Council of Representatives. The Finance Committee was expected to move forward with the amendment’s approval, as the government cannot send the tables without it.

Kojer further elaborated that the delay in sending the general budget tables to the Council of Representatives is partly due to the failure to legislate the amendment to the law. Additionally, some MPs have raised observations and objections regarding the text of the law. There have been requests for the Minister of Finance and relevant officials to attend Council sessions to discuss the new amendment text, as changes to the draft law could add new burdens to the original budget.

To address these issues, the Council of Representatives has decided to include a new agenda item titled “Voting on the draft amendment to the General Budget Law” for its session scheduled for next Sunday.
