Baghdad: The Parliamentary Foreign Relations Committee has emphasized the critical role of parliamentary diplomacy in enhancing and supporting international relations between friendly countries across multiple levels. The committee underscored this during a meeting of the Iraqi parliamentary delegation with the head of the Greek Parliamentary Friendship Group, Xenophon Baraliakes, and Vice President Konstantinos Kefalogiannis at the Greek Parliament building.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the head of the committee, MP Dilan Ghafoor Saleh, highlighted the Iraqi government’s intent to engage with Greek society through cultural missions and efforts to foster closer economic, trade, and investment ties. He emphasized that one of the key components in developing bilateral relations is the formulation of international agreements for joint cooperation.

The head of the Greek Friendship Committee expressed his welcome to the Iraqi parliamentary delegation, highlighting the profound bonds of friendship and
mutual respect that connect the peoples of Iraq and Greece. These relations are founded on shared values and common interests.

Discussions during the meeting covered various issues of joint cooperation, particularly in agriculture, tourism, culture, and investment. The talks also addressed simplifying the procedures for granting entry visas between the two countries. Additionally, the strategic role of Iraq in supporting the Lebanese and Palestinian peoples was acknowledged, alongside Greece’s solidarity in halting Zionist attacks on Gaza and Lebanon, with the aim of establishing peace in the region.
