Baghdad: The Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee has announced that significant laws concerning the armed forces will soon be enacted in Parliament. Yasser Iskandar Watout, a committee member and part of the Reconstruction and Development Coalition, disclosed this development, highlighting the committee’s ongoing work to finalize these critical pieces of legislation.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Watout stated that among the essential laws under discussion are those related to the retirement of members of the Internal Security Forces and the Ministry of Defense. The committee is also working on amendments to the Traffic Law and is pushing forward with legislation to bolster Iraq’s air defense system. Watout elaborated that the retirement laws will address amendments to nominal salaries, the rights of martyrs and the wounded, retirement age, hazard pay, and other related issues. These amendments are set to be finalized and discussed with experts from the relevant ministries before being submitted to the Speaker of Parliament for approval.

Furthermore, concerning the Traffic Law, discussions have been held with the Director of the General Traffic Directorate and its commanders. Recommendations to reduce fines by half have been proposed, and a decision on allowing citizens to tint their vehicle windows in exchange for a fee is expected soon. The Security and Defense Committee is also prioritizing swift legislation to enhance the air defense system, aiming to safeguard Iraqi airspace against external threats.
