Baghdad: The Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee discussed on Sunday the first proposed amendment to the Civil Defense Law No. (44) of 2013, in preparation for completing the necessary procedures and submitting it to the Speaker of Parliament for inclusion on the parliamentary agenda and its first reading.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the committee also discussed the final draft of the proposed Internal Security Forces Service and Retirement Law No. (18) of 2011, in preparation for completing the necessary legislative procedures. Additionally, the committee discussed the second proposed amendment to the Military Service and Retirement Law, in preparation for finalizing its drafting and submitting it to the Speaker of Parliament for inclusion on the parliamentary agenda.

On the oversight and security front, the committee examined the ammunition explosion at Camp Taji, its circumstances, and the measures taken in response. The committee stressed the importance of determining the causes of the incident and the results of the official investigations, as well as strengthening safety procedures and control measures at ammunition and hazardous materials depots.

The committee also discussed allegations of corruption at border crossings and checkpoints in Kirkuk Governorate, methods for verifying related information and files, monitoring the performance of relevant authorities, and ensuring the integrity of procedures. This aims to combat corruption, protect public funds, and enhance security and administrative discipline.

The committee also addressed the issue of fictitious contracts within the Ministry of Interior, examining the need to verify the nature of these contracts and the procedures undertaken regarding them, ensuring the soundness of their legal and financial foundations, and taking legal action against any violations proven through investigation and audit.
