Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani has pledged full support for the Iraqi national basketball team as they prepare for the World Cup qualifiers in Lebanon.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Khaled Abdul Wahid Ghubayan, the Prime Minister’s Advisor for Youth and Sports Affairs, emphasized Al-Sudani’s commitment to the sports sector, highlighting his belief in sports as a positive representation of the nation and a means to elevate Iraq’s status internationally.
The Iraqi national team is set to conduct an internal training camp in Baghdad before heading to Lebanon for an external camp beginning November 12. The objective of these camps is to ensure the players are well-prepared and familiar with the conditions of the Lebanese stadiums. The team will engage in several preparatory matches ahead of their qualifiers against Iran, scheduled for November 27 and 30.
