Baghdad: PM Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi chaired the second session of the Supreme Authority for Coordination between the Governorates in 2026, focusing on the general situation in the provinces, service and livelihood conditions, and other key issues. The meeting was attended by ministers, the Director of the Prime Minister's Office, governors, heads of provincial councils, and advisors.
According to Iraqi News Agency, Al-Zaidi emphasized the necessity of aligning the federal government's strategic plans with local governments to improve citizen services. He highlighted the importance of regulating arms strictly within state institutions to foster development and economic growth. Al-Zaidi also discussed anti-corruption measures, urging that efforts should target both minor offenders and major corruption cases.
Al-Zaidi directed officials to conduct project audits and performance reviews from the cost estimation stage, ensuring integrity and transparency to protect public funds. He invited businesspeople and companies involved in provincial projects to contribute to the one million residential land plot initiative, citing concerns over inflated project cost estimates.
He also stressed the importance of utilizing commercial plots and water and service projects to enhance service levels and revenue. Al-Zaidi called for integrating border crossing revenues into provincial development and emphasized the need to honor the rights of martyrs, the wounded, and their families.
The session addressed various issues, including fair pricing for crops, land use conversion, and enhancing coordination between local and federal governments. It also discussed advancing the electricity sector with investment company cooperation, maximizing revenues, reducing expenditures, and encouraging investment in different fields.
