PM: Government Will Proceed with PMF Law for Approval

Baghdad: Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi affirmed on Thursday that the government will proceed with submitting the Popular Mobilization Forces Law for approval, explaining that Iraq is currently witnessing a reconstruction phase after fulfilling the requirements of the operation to defend its sovereignty.

According to Iraqi News Agency, the Prime Minister’s Media Office stated in a press release that “Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi received, on Thursday, the head of the Badr parliamentary bloc, Humam Ali Mahdi al-Tamimi, and members of the bloc.” The statement noted that the meeting addressed the general situation in the country, politically, economically, and in terms of security, as well as the government’s efforts in implementing its reform and development programs.

The Prime Minister emphasized “the important role of the legislative authority in combating corruption and prosecuting corrupt individuals, explaining that the government’s project is based on building a state founded on a robust economy, and stressing the importance of finding radical solutions to problems with a new and innovative vision, rather than postponing them.”

Al-Zaydi explained that “the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) enjoy the attention and support of the government, which will proceed with submitting the PMF law for approval, recognizing it as part of the armed forces’ formations and branches.” He added that “Iraq is currently witnessing a reconstruction phase after fulfilling the requirements of the operation to defend its sovereignty.”

For their part, the members of parliament affirmed their absolute support for the government in all its reform steps and measures, particularly in the areas of combating corruption and regulating weapons according to constitutional mechanisms.
