Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al Sudani inaugurated the Health City Pharmaceutical Project in southern Baghdad, a significant development for Iraq's pharmaceutical industry. The project covers 120,000 square meters and involves an investment exceeding $500 million.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the project includes constructing five pharmaceutical factories in collaboration with leading international companies. This includes a biosimilar medicines factory with Hetero, a plasma derivatives factory in partnership with Accord Healthcare and Prothya Biosolutions, a peritoneal dialysis solutions factory with Baxter International, a pharmaceutical production facility, and a medical textiles and disposables factory. Additionally, the project features a research and development center in partnership with Sartorius AG, along with refrigerated and sterile storage facilities and solar power stations.

Through a video link, Al Sudani inaugurated three peritoneal dialysis centers in Baghdad, Nineveh, and Erbil. He also witnessed the signing of three preliminary agreements with global pharmaceutical technology leaders, including Abbott Laboratories, to enhance pharmaceutical manufacturing in Iraq.

The Prime Minister stated that the project is a strategic step toward localizing pharmaceutical production, transferring advanced technologies, and providing treatments for cancer, immune, and chronic diseases. He highlighted the importance of pharmaceutical security, equating it with food and military security.

Al Sudani also emphasized the government's supportive measures for the Ministry of Health and the private sector. He reaffirmed the commitment to strengthening public-private partnerships to develop the healthcare sector and create job opportunities for young people.
