Preparations Finalized for OIC Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Baghdad

Baghdad:The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that all necessary preparations have been finalized for Baghdad to host the upcoming session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Foreign Ministers, scheduled for October 17-18. The meeting will see participation from 55 member and observer states.

According to Iraqi News Agency, Ambassador Hassanein Kamel, spokesperson for the 52nd session of the Council, confirmed that a comprehensive plan has been implemented to ensure the smooth arrival of delegations, secure transport to their accommodations, and proper hospitality, all in line with established protocol standards. The meetings will focus on the theme “Dialogue and Solidarity Key Pillars for Promoting Peace and Sustainable Development,” addressing regional and international challenges that require intensified consultation and strengthened joint action among member states.

Participation in the event will include member and observer states, along with guests such as UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed and representatives from approximately 40 non-governmental organizations. Arrangements have been made for delegations to tour various religious and historical landmarks in Baghdad, including Al-Kadhimiya and Al-Adhamiya, to highlight the city’s rich cultural heritage. Coordination is ongoing between the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the OIC General Secretariat to finalize meeting programs and agenda discussions.

A media center has been established at the Heart of the World Hotel to support local, Arab, and international media outlets in covering the proceedings and events of the meetings. Iraq aims for the session to produce actionable outcomes that enhance the effectiveness of the OIC, elevate coordination among member states, and translate shared principles into practical programs and initiatives.

Baghdad’s hosting of this session is seen as an opportunity to renew Iraq’s openness toward its Islamic surroundings, strengthen relations with member states, and underscore the capital’s role in fostering dialogue, bridging differing viewpoints, and supporting initiatives aimed at reducing tensions and promoting regional and international stability. Iraq remains fully committed to collaborating with member states and the OIC General Secretariat to ensure the success of the session and meet the aspirations of the Islamic world for security, peace, stability, development, and prosperity.
