Baghdad: President Nizar Amedi affirmed on Sunday that political and social stability are essential for advancing the reform process.

According to Iraqi News Agency, the Presidential Media Office stated in a press release that “President Nizar Amedi met in Baghdad a delegation of representatives from political forces, parties, and prominent figures who are members of the National Civil Dialogue Coordination Committee.” During the meeting, the latest developments on the local and regional scenes were reviewed, and ways to unify visions and consolidate consensus among national forces were discussed, thus creating a solid foundation for confronting current challenges and mitigating their repercussions.

“The President emphasized that the nature of the current phase necessitates expanding the scope of dialogue and understanding and bridging viewpoints in order to solidify harmony in the national stance and support the government in fulfilling its responsibilities and responding to the requirements of this phase efficiently and effectively,” according to the statement.

“Political and social stability are essential for advancing the reform process, improving services, continuing efforts to combat corruption, and addressing issues that affect citizens’ daily lives and meet their aspirations,” he added. President Amedi stressed the importance of safeguarding freedom of opinion and expression, strengthening and empowering women, and supporting civil society organisations, as they are fundamental pillars for building a cohesive society and a democratic state capable of responding to citizens’ aspirations. This necessitates that national actors keep pace with these priorities and create a supportive political climate.

For their part, the delegation members expressed their appreciation for the role played by the President in supporting dialogue and national rapprochement, commending his commitment to “strengthening communication between various parties to unify visions and coordinate positions regarding current challenges”.
