Baghdad: The President of the Republic, Nizar Amedi, has called for the repatriation of the remains of the esteemed poet, Muhammad Mahdi al-Jawahiri, to his homeland. In a statement that underscores the significance of honoring national figures, President Amedi emphasized the importance of bringing al-Jawahiri’s remains back to Iraq.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, President Amedi made this appeal on the anniversary of the passing of al-Jawahiri, who is revered as one of the greatest poets in Iraq and the Arab world. President Amedi highlighted the poet’s contributions to modern Iraqi consciousness, acknowledging al-Jawahiri as a key literary and national figure.

In a post on the (X) platform, President Amedi stated, “We remember a great literary and national figure who contributed to shaping many aspects of the modern Iraqi consciousness.” He further stressed the need for Iraq to honor its symbols by facilitating the return of the poet’s remains, asserting that it is time for al-Jawahiri to be reunited with his family and for Iraq to embrace its “third river.”
