Baghdad The President of the Republic, Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, affirmed that: “The unity of goals and efforts is the cornerstone of our success, and that a shared sense of responsibility for the life and dignity of any citizen is the right start to building and moving towards the future.”
Rashid said in an article published in the semi-official Al-Sabah newspaper, today, Monday: “We will work to support the government’s effort in this direction, which would make Iraq an oasis of lasting peace,” noting: “The efforts in the Presidency of the Republic are an integrated work with the government effort, which faces many executive tasks and responsibilities related to the lives and security of citizens in front of it, as well as closely related to building the country and getting it out of the stagnation that it has been suffering from for years.
He added: “In the summits of Algeria and Sharm el-Sheikh, we felt confidence in feelings, which confirms the possibility of pushing Iraq’s regional relations forward towards developing the common interests of the peoples and countries of the neighborhood and the region in order to create a secure and stable political environment based on the foundations of cooperation, construction and peace.”
He pointed out: “Iraq has good opportunities to be a focal point in such understandings, and perhaps the successes it has achieved in recent years in providing an atmosphere of understanding between neighboring countries will allow it to continue these efforts that everyone in our regional environment seems to be in dire need of.”
The President of the Republic continued: “The important issue for which we have given a lot of time and effort is the water problem that we talked about at the Algiers summit and took us in broader details at Sharm El-Sheikh summit. And by virtue of our academic specialization and our local and international experience, we can, from our position as President of the Republic, do a lot to support the effort of the Ministry of Water Resources, in agreement with the authorities in the Republic of Turkey and the Islamic Republic of Iran, as well as with the Syrian Arab Republic, in order to reach understandings and agreements that secure a just sharing of water, and this is not impossible.”
