Baghdad: President of the Republic, Dr. Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, received the President of the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate, who is also the President of the General Union of Arab Journalists, Moayad Al-Lami, on Monday, August 18, 2025, at Al-Salam Palace.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the President expressed his appreciation for the national press and its role in promoting democratic values and freedom of expression. He emphasized the importance of the Media Code of Honor, which balances the freedom of publication with professional responsibility, contributing to societal peace.

Rashid underscored the media’s role in supervising government performance and identifying shortcomings objectively. He urged that this responsibility be executed in partnership with respect for the law and constitution, highlighting the media’s duty to report both state achievements and deficiencies to improve governmental performance.

The President also discussed the Presidency’s involvement in important matters, such as the detainees’ file, mentioning the release of over 15,000 detainees and the submission of several draft laws to the House of Representatives.

Moayad Al-Lami, in response, appreciated the Presidency’s support for journalists and outlined the Syndicate’s efforts to enhance the media environment and uphold professional codes of honor.
