Baghdad: President of the Republic Nizar Amidi emphasized the importance of focusing on individual sports and supporting talented athletes.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Presidency stated: “President Amidi met today, Monday, with Iraqi Paralympic champion Najla Imad, praising the historic achievements she has realized for Iraqi sports in international arenas.”

The President lauded the exceptional story of willpower and determination embodied by Najla Imad, stating: “Champion Najla-who lost three of her limbs in a terrorist bombing in 2008-did not allow this tragedy to halt her life; instead, she transformed pain into strength and success, becoming a champion who raises the Iraqi flag at the world’s most prestigious sporting events.”

He added: “Najla Imad’s achievements are not merely medals added to the record of Iraqi sports; they are a message of hope and determination, and a true embodiment of the Iraqi people’s ability to defy the most difficult circumstances and turn challenges into successes.”

The President of the Republic commended the efforts of all Iraqi athletes, particularly the Paralympic champions who continue to achieve success and elevate the country’s standing in international arenas, affirming that these champions deserve full support, attention, and appreciation.

President Amidi emphasized the importance of prioritizing individual sports and providing the necessary training resources, care, and support for talented athletes, thereby enabling them to develop their capabilities and represent Iraq in international championships. He noted that “investing in sports is an investment in people and in the potential of Iraqi youth.”

For her part, champion Najla Imad expressed her gratitude and appreciation to the President of the Republic for his continued interest in and support for athletes, affirming her determination to achieve further success and raise Iraq’s profile high in international arenas.
