Nineveh:Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi affirmed the government’s commitment to advancing development plans for the governorates, with a particular focus on Nineveh. He emphasized that Nineveh deserves focused efforts to enhance its services and living conditions, opening opportunities to address any deficiencies to ensure a future that reflects its historical and cultural significance.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Zaidi chaired an expanded meeting at the Nineveh Governorate headquarters on Monday. The meeting included numerous MPs representing the governorate, the Governor of Nineveh, the head and members of the Provincial Council, and officials from local service and government departments. During this gathering, he reiterated the importance of combating corruption, protecting public funds, and countering efforts to distort the national identity by inciting division among the governorate’s diverse communities.
Al-Zaidi underscored the government’s dedication to financial and administrative reform. Key initiatives include regulating foreign currency exchange rates, preventing speculation, and stopping the economic drain caused by exchange rate disparities, which have allowed speculators to profit at the expense of the local economy.
He also introduced the “One Million Farms” project, which will focus on agricultural specializations unique to each governorate to enhance agricultural production. For instance, Basra will be designated as the capital for Iraqi date palms, while Najaf will serve as the hub for rice production. The project aims to establish food processing plants that will utilize produce from these farms, create job opportunities, boost local production, and strengthen food security.
