Dhaka:Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi commended governorates that have completed the procedures for the “one million residential plots” initiative and urged the remaining governorates to finalize their procedures by year-end. This directive was issued during the 6th regular session of the High Commission for Coordination between Governorates, which Al-Zaidi chaired. The session addressed various economic and development issues and resulted in decisions and recommendations for further action.
According to Iraqi News Agency, Prime Minister Al-Zaidi emphasized the positive impact of the Watan Initiative on citizens in Karbala and Al-Najaf Al-Ashraf Governorates. He praised the governors for their commitment to the project and reaffirmed the government’s dedication to completing the initiative promptly. Al-Zaidi stressed the necessity for all governorates to finalize land allocation procedures swiftly to enable laying the foundation stone by the end of the year. He assured that any delays would prompt his personal involvement in completing the necessary steps.
Ihsan Al-Awadi, the Prime Minister’s Chief of Staff, reported that Karbala, Al-Najaf Al-Ashraf, and Anbar Governorates have fully met the initiative’s requirements. Meanwhile, Maysan, Al-Muthanna, Wasit, Baghdad, and Nineveh have made significant progress. Efforts continue in seven other governorates, with 275,000 residential land plots ready so far.
The session also approved measures to develop the industrial sector, mandating all governorates to implement Industrial Coordination Council Resolutions No. 12 of 2026 and No. 29 of 2025. These resolutions involve preparing and subdividing 1,000 dunams of land for industrial projects, with required reports to be submitted by the governorates.
In a preventive health measure, the governorates, in collaboration with the Ministries of Health and Agriculture, are tasked with enhancing veterinary hospital operations. This includes campaigns to combat ticks transmitting Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever, supported by 2 billion Iraqi dinars and logistical assistance.
To improve healthcare infrastructure, the session decided that governorates with extensive highways and border crossings should plan for 50-bed hospitals, developed in coordination with the Ministries of Health and Planning. These hospitals will ensure rapid response and emergency care, equipped with ambulances suited to local needs.
