Baghdad: Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi and United Kingdom Ambassador to Iraq Irfan Siddiq emphasized on Thursday the importance of concerted regional and international efforts to de-escalate tensions.

According to Iraqi News Agency, the Prime Minister’s Media Office stated in a press release that “Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi received United Kingdom Ambassador to Iraq Irfan Siddiq on Thursday.” The meeting highlighted the bilateral relations between Iraq and the United Kingdom, focusing on strengthening cooperation and enhancing partnerships in various fields to benefit both nations.

The discussion also touched upon the latest regional developments, with both parties underscoring the importance of regional and international collaboration to reduce tensions. They advocated for dialogue and communication as tools for resolving crises and achieving security and stability.

The British ambassador expressed his country’s support for the Iraqi government’s initiatives to combat corruption, implement financial reforms, and strengthen the rule of law. He emphasized the need to restrict weapons to state control, contributing to the consolidation of stability and reinforcement of state institutions.

Ambassador Siddiq commended the Iraqi government’s dedication to supporting stability and reiterated the UK’s readiness to continue collaborating with Iraq on issues of mutual interest.
