Prime Minister Highlights Government’s Prioritization of Health Sector

Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani emphasized that the health sector has been prioritized in the government’s agenda, focusing on infrastructure completion and the adoption of a health insurance system. During the commencement of the 100-bed hospital project in the Rahmaniyat Al-Shaala area near Karkh, Al-Sudani highlighted the government’s commitment to improving healthcare access and facilities.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Prime Minister disclosed that the government has successfully implemented 18 hospitals of various capacities and increased the bed capacity in government hospitals. Efforts have been made to address and resolve issues that caused delays and suspensions of hospital projects over the past years. In less than three years, the bed capacity of government hospitals has increased from 43,500 to 46,900 beds, with a target to reach 60,000 beds as remaining projects are completed.

Al-Sudani mentioned adopting a joint management system for operations in six hospitals through contracts with international health institutions, aimed at enhancing the quality of services provided. This Monday morning marked the launch of the 100-bed hospital project in Rahmaniyat Al-Shaala, part of a broader initiative under the Iraqi-Chinese agreement to implement 16 hospitals of similar capacity.

The Prime Minister commended the Ministry of Health staff for their dedication to providing quality services and outlined government plans to establish district-level hospitals. These initiatives aim to reduce the need for citizens to travel to governorate centers, alleviating service pressure. The new hospitals will feature modern designs and be fully equipped with necessary medical equipment, illustrating the government’s commitment to advancing healthcare infrastructure across the country.
