Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani has directed the Ministry of Electricity to transition to electronic payment methods for electricity bills, focusing on high-load sectors such as commercial, industrial, and agricultural areas supplied with electricity.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Prime Minister’s Media Office released a statement following a meeting chaired by al-Sudani. The meeting was attended by the Minister of Electricity, the Head of the Board of Advisors, senior staff from the Ministry of Electricity, and several officials involved with the electricity billing file.

The statement outlined discussions on the current distribution plan and a roadmap to address bottlenecks, alongside a report aimed at reducing energy losses and waste by 40%. The meeting also considered implementing legal measures to address losses in specific regions.

Further deliberations included evaluating the supplied energy’s value versus the metered energy and comparing these figures to actual collections. The meeting featured a review of electronic billing practices over the past two months nationwide, assessing the achieved increase in efficiency.
