Baghdad: Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi directed on Tuesday the adoption of the unified national identity card in the upcoming elections, while emphasizing the importance of providing all necessary resources to ensure citizens can exercise their right to vote easily and transparently.
According to Iraqi News Agency, the Prime Minister’s Media Office stated in a press release that “Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi chaired a joint meeting between the Ministry of Interior and the Independent High Electoral Commission, in the presence of the Director of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, the Director General of Civil Status, Passports and Residency, and a number of officers from the directorate, in addition to the Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Commission, his deputy, and several members of its board.”
The Prime Minister commended the Commission’s performance in conducting the previous parliamentary elections, which was characterized by high transparency and professionalism, while calling for continued work with the same dedication and early preparation for the upcoming elections. The Prime Minister emphasized, “Protecting the citizen’s vote is protecting their future, and whoever owns their vote owns their future,” stressing the importance of providing all necessary resources to ensure citizens can exercise their right to vote easily and transparently.
The Prime Minister directed the adoption of the unified national identity card in the upcoming elections, emphasizing that its use would facilitate voting procedures for citizens and enhance the accuracy of electoral data. He also directed the Ministry of Interior to provide all necessary data and information to facilitate the work of the Independent High Electoral Commission and complete the requirements for this adoption.
The meeting also addressed the mechanisms and steps necessary to finalize all technical and administrative requirements for adopting the unified national identity card in the upcoming elections and coordination between the Ministry of Interior and the Commission to ensure that the required preparations are completed within the specified timeframes.
