Protesters Demand Dismissal of Wasit Governor Over Market Fire

Baghdad: Dozens of citizens demonstrated today in front of Wasit Governorate Building, expressing their rejection of Governor Mohammed Jamil Al-Miyahi remaining in office, and demanding his dismissal following the tragic fire incident at Kut Hypermarket.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, one of the protesters, Faleh Al-Mousawi, stated, 'We call on the Prime Minister's Office and the Parliament to take urgent action to dismiss the Governor of Wasit due to what we consider clear negligence and failure in dealing with the catastrophe that claimed the lives of several citizens.'

Al-Mousawi emphasized that the protests will continue until their demands are met, insisting that the governor must also be referred to the judiciary to be held legally accountable for the consequences of the incident.

The city of Kut has been witnessing a wave of public anger in recent days following the fire, which resulted in multiple casualties, amid accusations of negligence and poor emergency response.
