Erbil:The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) announced on Tuesday its rejection of a session of the Kurdistan Region Parliament scheduled for tomorrow, Wednesday, describing it as “illegal.”
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the PUK noted that “reports are circulating regarding the holding of an illegal session of the Kurdistan Region Parliament tomorrow, Wednesday.” The party asserted that “this move contradicts the principles of the rule of law and national consensus, deviates from the foundations of a genuine partnership, and represents an attempt to impose the will of a single political faction.”
The PUK confirmed that it will not participate in the aforementioned session and called upon all political forces and national figures committed to the entity of the Kurdistan Region to refrain from participating as well.
The PUK emphasized that “parliamentary sessions only derive their true legitimacy through national consensus and the participation of all elected parties, acting of their own free and democratic will.” It further stated that “any attempt to influence the decisions of parliamentarians—whether by purchasing their positions or through threats and psychological pressure—is fundamentally at odds with democratic principles.”
The party warned that it “will not recognize any parliament or government that emerges from meetings held in a merely formalistic manner, where decisions lack the basis of a free, democratic will.”
