Basra: Poet Qais Al-Maliki was elected president of the Popular Poets Association in Basra by acclamation. The elections for the Basra Association of Popular Poets resulted in the renewal of confidence in poet Qais al-Maliki as president of the association for the next term by acclamation, as he was the sole candidate for the position. The elections took place in the hall of the College of Education in the Qurna district, during a session named after the late Sheikh Sabah al-Armash al-Maliki and poet Mahdi Aboud al-Sudani.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the elections were held in the presence of the president of the Iraqi Association of Popular Poets, poet Adai al-Sultani, and his deputy, poet Mahdi al-Haidari. Seventy-three poets from the general assembly participated in the elections. The results of the vote to choose the remaining members of the administrative board resulted in the victory of poet Salem al-Dubaisi with 66 votes, poet Abu Alaa al-Bouhalwa with 65 votes, poet Tammuz al-Maliki with 56 votes, poet Diaa al-Hassani with 55 votes, poet Hassan Khalifa with 45 votes, and poet Ahmed al-Hamdani with 38 votes.
