Berlin: The nomination of Reem Al-Abli, the German Minister of Integration of Iraqi origin, to head the Ministry of Development in the new German government was announced in the German capital, Berlin.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Iraqi expatriates living abroad circulated the nomination of the Iraqi-born woman, citing the official website of the Bundestag, which included part of her biography. Reem Al-Abli-Radovan was born on May 1, 1990, in Moscow. She graduated from the Free University of Berlin in 2013 with a Bachelor's degree in Political Science. In 2017, she enrolled in advanced studies in international relations and business administration at the Technical University of Kaiserslautern.
She joined the SPD (Social Democratic Party of Germany) in 2021 and was elected to the Bundestag on September 26, 2021, representing an eastern constituency, one of Germany's poorest and most challenging regions in terms of cultural diversity. On December 8, 2021, Reem Al-Abli was sworn in as Minister of State for Migration, Refugees, and Integration in the German federal government led by Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
Reem Al-Abli is the first German woman of Iraqi-Assyrian descent to hold this sensitive position and played a crucial role in drafting the new Integration Law, adopted by Parliament on June 15, 2023. This law links language learning to employment opportunities and vocational training. Al-Abli represents Germany in European Union and United Nations meetings on migration and refugee rights, especially in the Middle East and Africa. She speaks four languages: German (native), Arabic, English, and Assyrian.
