Researcher Highlights Key Entities to Boost Voter Turnout in Elections

Baghdad: Election researcher Sara Al-Azzawi has identified three entities that could work to increase voter turnout in the electoral process, emphasizing the roles of these entities alongside the Independent High Electoral Commission and the media.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Azzawi highlighted the pivotal role of the three presidencies in enhancing voter participation. She noted that the legislative authority has the power to enact fair and balanced laws related to elections, which are essential for improving voter turnout. The absence of such laws, she warned, could lead to reduced voter engagement.

Al-Azzawi further elaborated on the responsibilities of the judicial and executive authorities. She stated that the judicial authority must remain neutral and avoid politicization to effectively handle decisions and appeals arising from electoral disputes. The executive authority, she added, should focus on implementing government programs effectively. Corruption or quota-based operations within its associated institutions could erode citizen confidence in the government and the electoral process.

The researcher also stressed the critical role of the media and civil society organizations. These entities are vital in educating voters, encouraging them to participate in elections, and ensuring the integrity of the electoral process by monitoring for any irregularities.
