Russia Offers Condolences to Iran Following Unrest

Moscow: Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov expressed his condolences to the Iranian government and people following the recent unrest that resulted in the loss of citizens and security personnel. Ryabkov conveyed these sentiments during a meeting with Kazem Jalali, the Iranian Ambassador to Russia.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Ryabkov underscored Russia’s official position against any interference in Iran’s internal matters during his discussion with Ambassador Jalali. The meeting also saw Jalali outlining the terrorist and violent acts that occurred in January 2026 (Dey 1404), which exploited otherwise peaceful gatherings. He described these incidents as an extension of hostile actions against Iran, which had been countered by a massive public demonstration on January 12.

The officials also discussed recent regional and international developments, alongside nuclear issues. Both parties highlighted the necessity for continued consultations to resist unilateral actions and to bolster multilateral processes.
