Moscow: Scientists from the Russian company Air Spring Engineering have developed a unit capable of extracting 1,000 liters of drinking water from the air daily.
According to Iraqi News Agency, the Human Capital Development Foundation’s press office stated that the system operates in temperatures ranging from +12 to +60 degrees Celsius, and it has been tested in the arid climates of Uzbekistan and India. The project is currently entering the pilot marketing phase.
The project’s creator, Sergey Dorjiev, explained that the system can produce up to 1,000 liters of water per day, sufficient for small settlements, remote military or exploration bases, tourist camps, or small industrial facilities. It can operate independently using solar panels and withstand extreme temperatures, making it a life-giving tool for places where providing water was previously considered impossible.
Dubbed “Water in the Desert,” the development underwent technical testing in 2024 in Uzbekistan and trials in India in 2025. The system utilizes a multi-stage condensation cycle with pre-conditioning of airflow. The process involves outside air entering a conditioning unit that selects either a sequential or parallel processing mode depending on the conditions. The airflow is then directed towards cooling plates, where water vapor condenses into water. The used air passes through a heat exchanger, transferring its coolness to the incoming airflow, reducing energy consumption to 0.4-0.7 kWh per liter of water produced.
These characteristics allow the application of the technology in arid and semi-arid regions of the Middle East, Central Asia, and Africa, particularly in areas where nighttime temperatures are around +15°C and rise to +60°C during the day, with absolute humidity between 5 and 8 grams per cubic meter.
