Changwon: The South Korean Navy announced on Thursday that South Korea and the United States have conducted regular naval exercises aimed at improving their joint maritime rescue and relief capabilities in times of war and peace.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the five-day drills began on Monday off Changwon, about 300 kilometers southeast of Seoul, with the participation of the South Korean rescue and relief ship Gwangyang, as well as forces from the rescue and relief unit and the U.S. Mobile Diving and Rescue Unit.

The joint drills aim to train South Korean and American sailors in various joint rescue and relief operations in times of war and peace. As part of the drills, South Korean and American forces participated in exercises, including diving to search for missing personnel from a simulated shipwreck, and using a diving chamber known as a diving bell to transport divers to depths of about 40 to 50 meters.

Members of the Coast Guard, in addition to British and Australian forces, participated in the exercises as observers.
