Baghdad: Samsung Electronics launched its new generation of foldable phones in the Galaxy Z8 series, comprising three models: the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8, and Galaxy Z Flip8. This move aims to expand the reach of foldable phones and offer more advanced user experiences powered by artificial intelligence.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the company confirmed that the new series represents a qualitative leap in foldable device design, with improvements in performance, screens, cameras, and batteries, in addition to broader integration of the Galaxy AI ecosystem, which provides a smarter and smoother experience while maintaining the highest standards of privacy and security.
Samsung Electronics CEO and Head of Device Experience, TM Roh, stated that smartphones have become the most private gateway to AI experiences, noting that the company has set a new standard for foldable devices, paving the way for a new era of innovation and making these technologies accessible to a wider range of users.
The Galaxy Z Fold8 features a completely new design focused on providing a more natural user experience, whether through the external screen for quick daily tasks or the larger internal screen dedicated to reading, watching content, playing games, and multitasking. Weighing just 201 grams, the phone is the lightest in the Fold series. It's powered by a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor and a 4800 mAh battery that provides up to 26 hours of video playback. The main display boasts a brightness of up to 3000 nits and Vision Booster technology for improved visibility in outdoor lighting.
Samsung has also adopted its new Flex Titanium technology, which uses a titanium frame to reduce the device's thickness, enhance its durability, and minimize the effects of folding over time. For photography, the phone features dual 50-megapixel rear cameras with improved image and video quality, Dual Recording for simultaneous shooting, and My FanCam technology that automatically tracks people and reframes the scene.
The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra represents the highest-performing foldable device, featuring an 8-inch main display, a thickness of only 4.1 mm when unfolded, and a 5000 mAh battery that supports 45W fast charging. The device features a 200MP main camera and a 50MP ultrawide camera, along with support for 8K video recording and Nightography and Cine LUT technologies geared towards content creators. It also boasts an enhanced graphite-based cooling system to maintain performance during intensive use.
Meanwhile, the Galaxy Z Flip8 is Samsung's thinnest and lightest flip phone, weighing just 180 grams and measuring only 6.1mm thick. It features a smarter FlexWindow display that provides quick access to apps, information, and AI features without needing to unfold the phone. The phone supports Now Brief and Gemini Intelligence for easy voice commands and everyday tasks, and offers an enhanced photography experience with its 50MP camera powered by the ProVisual Engine. Features like Flex Mode, Super Steady, and FlipShot give users greater flexibility in capturing photos and videos.
Samsung explained that the Galaxy AI ecosystem is more advanced in the new series, offering smart services like Now Brief for personalized summaries and information, and Now Nudge for turning ideas into actionable plans. Gemini Intelligence supports over 40 apps and services, assisting with report and summary creation, file organization, and working across foldable screens. The new phones can also be linked to the Galaxy Watch Ultra, Galaxy Watch9, and the upcoming smart glasses, providing a seamless AI-powered experience across various devices.
In terms of security, Samsung has enhanced the series with the Samsung Knox platform and Knox Vault, KEEP, and Personal Data Engine technologies to protect personal data. The One UI 9 interface includes an AI Assistant Activity panel to monitor all AI-powered processes, along with proactive privacy alerts.
The company announced that pre-orders for the Galaxy Z8 series are now open in several markets, offering multiple color options and a free six-month subscription to Google AI Pro, which includes 5TB of cloud storage. Samsung also provided new tools to facilitate users switching from iPhones to Galaxy devices via the Smart Switch app without needing to install additional applications. Quick Share is also compatible with AirDrop for easy file sharing, in addition to Samsung Care+ services, which include maintenance, warranty, and technical support both locally and internationally.
