Riyadh: The Saudi Ministry of Defense announced Sunday evening the interception and destruction of a ballistic missile launched towards Prince Sultan Air Base. Ministry of Defense spokesman Major General Turki al-Maliki stated in a press release: "A ballistic missile launched towards Prince Sultan Air Base was intercepted and destroyed."

According to National Iraqi News Agency, earlier announcements from the Saudi Ministry of Defense included the interception and destruction of a drone in the Empty Quarter (Rub' al Khali) heading towards the Shaybah oil field. On the same evening, the Saudi Civil Defense reported a military projectile landing on a residential area in Al-Kharj Governorate, resulting in the death of two people and injuries to 12 residents. The Civil Defense spokesman emphasized that "attempts to target civilian areas are a blatant violation of international humanitarian law, and the procedures adopted in such cases have been implemented."

The Ministry of Defense had previously announced the interception and destruction of two ballistic missiles launched towards Prince Sultan Air Base, as well as the interception and destruction of a drone east of Riyadh, and the interception and destruction of other drones in the Empty Quarter that were heading towards the Shaybah oil field.

The region is witnessing an unprecedented escalation against the backdrop of the US-Israeli war on Iran, which has entered its ninth day, with continued exchanges of missile and drone strikes targeting several countries in the region.
