Baghdad: Babil police apprehended a man on Friday who had been sentenced to death in absentia by a Babil criminal court in 2024 for the murder of a fishmonger from Baghdad. The arrest took place during a raid on a house in the Al-Hashimiya district, located south of Hillah.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Babil Police Media Director, Colonel Ammar Al-Shammari, stated that intelligence information played a crucial role in the arrest of the suspect. The accused had allegedly lured the victim from Baghdad to Babil, where the murder took place. Colonel Al-Shammari confirmed that the police have transferred the accused to the relevant authorities for further proceedings.
