Basra: The Shalamcheh border crossing is experiencing a significant influx of visitors, with approximately 75,000 pilgrims passing through daily during the peak period of the Arbaeen pilgrimage, as announced by Basra Deputy Governor Hassan Thahir al-Najjar.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, al-Najjar conducted an inspection tour of the crossing, noting that security, support, and service agencies are actively working to ensure the smooth passage of pilgrims heading to the holy city of Karbala. This pilgrimage is a key religious event, with pilgrims visiting the shrine of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him).

During his tour, al-Najjar reviewed the facilities available to pilgrims arriving from Iran, highlighting the continuous traffic at the crossing. The Shalamcheh border has been recently upgraded, with a new crossing inaugurated by Acting Interior Minister Hussein al-Awadi and Basra Governor Asaad al-Eidani. This new crossing is the largest in Iraq, equipped with modern facilities to handle the large numbers of pilgrims traveling between Iraq and Iran.
