Sharjah: The 13th edition of the Elements of Theatrical Performance course has commenced at the Kalba Cultural Center in Sharjah. This comprehensive training program, organized by the Department of Culture, aims to equip aspiring theater enthusiasts with the skills necessary to prepare and produce short plays. Supervised by Iraqi artist Ali Al-Sudani, the course is led by a team of academic and experienced theater trainers, with the goal of enriching and sustaining theatrical activity in the Eastern Region.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the course includes three training workshops in scenography, directing, and acting, culminating in the Kalba Short Plays Festival. It also features lectures on these fields, as well as presentations and readings on the history of world theater.

The program begins with a scenography workshop led by Iraqi scenographer Dr. Ali Al-Sudani. This ten-day workshop covers theoretical and practical lectures on stage sound and lighting systems, analyzing theatrical texts, and transforming them into scenographic visions using lighting, mass, movement, color, and space. Participants are trained to use available materials and equipment cost-effectively to create innovative directorial visions.

Workshop activities include a lecture by Emirati director Abdulrahman Al-Mulla on employing scenography, followed by an acting workshop led by Egyptian artist Essam El-Sayed. Subsequent sessions feature lectures on acting and directing experiences by Emirati artists Abdullah Masoud and Mohammed Al-Amri, respectively. The directing workshop is led by Egyptian artist Dr. Gamal Yaqout.
