Sheikh Al-Khazali Calls for Political Independence of PMF and Economic Sovereignty in Iraq

Najaf:Sheikh Qais al-Khazali, Secretary-General of the Asa’ib Ahl al-Haq movement, highlighted the need to separate political entities from the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) and ensure that the PMF reports directly to the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.

According to Iraqi News Agency, during a “Sovereignty Day” ceremony in Najaf, Al-Khazali emphasized Iraq’s ability to reclaim full sovereignty and expel foreign forces. He noted the significance of Iraq celebrating the completion of national sovereignty, akin to the event on January 1, 2012.

Al-Khazali acknowledged the critical role of the Supreme Religious Authority in ensuring Iraq’s sovereignty and expressed gratitude to both the Religious Authority and the Iraqi people for their support.

He called for collective efforts to achieve economic sovereignty, stressing the importance of Iraq managing its own revenues and adhering to the directives of the Religious Authority. Additionally, he urged the acceleration of PMF law enactment to honor the fighters’ sacrifices.

Al-Khazali reiterated the importance of political independence for the PMF and its direct reporting to military leadership. He advocated against sectarian rhetoric and urged unity to prevent its resurgence.

He declared the government’s commitment, with support from political forces, to prevent the use of Iraqi territory for attacks on neighboring countries and hoped for cooperation from those nations.

Addressing security forces, Al-Khazali described them as the nation’s protective shield, responsible for maintaining its sovereignty and dignity. He encouraged political dialogue to establish a new social contract.
