Baghdad: The Secretary-General of Asa'ib Ahl al-Haq, Sheikh Qais al-Khazali, received the Dutch Ambassador to Iraq, Janet Alberda, at his office in Baghdad.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, a statement from al-Khazali's office noted that Ambassador Alberda congratulated Sheikh al-Khazali on the successful and smooth conduct of the parliamentary elections, expressing her appreciation for their outcomes, particularly the victory of the Sadiqun Movement, which also secured the position of First Deputy Speaker of Parliament.
Sheikh al-Khazali highlighted that these elections were distinct from previous ones, reflecting a high level of awareness among the Iraqi people as evidenced by the high voter turnout. He emphasized the significant results achieved through these elections, such as the formation of the largest bloc within the Coordination Framework and the establishment of the Sunni Political Council, which he believes contributes to strengthening political stability in Iraq.
Ambassador Alberda reiterated that the Dutch government supports the Iraqi government and expressed her hope that Iraq will assume its rightful place regionally and take on the leading role it deserves.
At the end of their meeting, both sides stressed the importance of strengthening bilateral relations between Iraq and the Netherlands in a manner that serves the common interests of both nations.
