Basra: Basra Provincial Council member Shukr al-Amiri announced the commencement of immediate and practical steps to address the water salinity crisis in the Shatt al-Arab district, in coordination with the provincial Water Resources Directorate. Al-Amiri stated, “Today, water pumping to the irrigation canal from the Suwaib River has begun. This swift response comes as a result of the continued rise in salinity levels in the Shatt al-Arab, necessitating the urgent provision of alternatives to supply the area with potable water.”

According to National Iraqi News Agency, this measure followed the completion of necessary pump maintenance to ensure the efficiency and continuity of the pumping process. Al-Amiri mentioned that residents of the Shatt al-Arab district are expected to experience a noticeable improvement and positive change in the quality of their water supply within the next few days.

Al-Amiri emphasized that the Basra Provincial Council prioritizes the water issue and the provision of essential services to citizens, while continuing to monitor all projects that serve the people of Basra.
