Basra: Members of the Strategic Planning and Federal Service Committee, accompanied by Minister of Transport Razzaq Muhaibas Al-Saadawi, Basra Provincial Council Chairman Khalaf Al-Badran, and the Director General of the General Company for Ports of Iraq, conducted a field visit on Sunday to the Grand Faw Port project to review the progress achieved in the strategic projects underway.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Director General presented a comprehensive briefing to the committee members and accompanying delegation, outlining the implementation status of the port’s various components, including berths, storage yards, and associated infrastructure, along with current completion rates.

It emphasized that “this visit represents significant moral support for the staff of Iraq’s ports, who continue to work around the clock to complete this vital project,” noting the committee’s clear understanding of the daily field challenges.

During the tour, Chairwoman of the Strategic Planning Committee, MP Layla Al-Tamimi, praised the substantial efforts invested in the project, stating: ‘What we witnessed in terms of organization and execution is a major achievement that reflects positively on the Ministry of Transport and the General Company for Ports of Iraq and its leadership.’ She affirmed the committee’s ongoing support for the project and its commitment to securing the necessary legislative and oversight frameworks to ensure the completion of the remaining phases and the commencement of full operations.

The Grand Faw Port is considered one of the most important strategic projects in Iraq and the region. It includes massive commercial berths, a submerged tunnel, the first of its kind in the Middle East, and an integrated network of roads and logistical facilities.
