Baghdad: The head of the Reconstruction and Development Coalition, Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, engaged in discussions with Dr. Saad Salloum, an advisor to the International Organization for Migration, focusing on the obstacles and challenges associated with the return of displaced persons and the rebuilding of Sinjar.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the dialogue between al-Sudani and Dr. Salloum addressed several pressing issues, including the administrative hurdles that hinder the return of displaced individuals and the reconstruction efforts in Sinjar. This conversation forms part of an international study led by Dr. Salloum, which aims to address these concerns comprehensively.

Al-Sudani emphasized the importance of sustained efforts to overcome these challenges, highlighting decisions made by the previous government to stabilize Sinjar. He mentioned the establishment of the Sinjar Reconstruction Fund, initiatives to grant Yazidis ownership of their homes and properties, and the formal recognition of the genocide against the Yazidis through a national day of remembrance. These measures are intended to support the voluntary return of Yazidis and strengthen Iraq’s commitment to acknowledging past atrocities and fostering national unity.
