Paris: High-ranking officials from Syria and Israel are scheduled to meet today in Paris to resume negotiations on a new security agreement between the two countries. This development comes as both nations are under pressure to enhance security and stability on their shared border.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the resumption of talks is reportedly being pushed by the administration of US President Donald Trump, who sees this as a potential first step toward future diplomatic normalization between Syria and Israel. The negotiations are being led by President Trump’s envoy to Syria, Tom Barrack, who will mediate during the two-day discussions.

Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Sheibani will be participating in the talks, alongside a new group of Israeli negotiators. This includes Netanyahu’s military advisor, General Roman Gofman, who has been nominated to head the Mossad, as well as Netanyahu’s acting national security advisor, Gil Reich. Previous negotiations were halted due to significant disagreements between the two sides and the resignation of Israel’s chief negotiator, Ron Dermer. He has since been replaced by Yehiel Leiter, Tel Aviv’s ambassador to Washington and a close associate of Netanyahu.

A source familiar with the situation informed Axios that President Trump urged Netanyahu to restart negotiations with Syria during their meeting last Monday. The source emphasized the importance of continuing the talks to swiftly reach an agreement.
