Syrian Military Denies Deployment to Yemen Amid Focus on Internal Priorities

Baghdad:Syrian diplomatic sources have denied recent claims alleging the deployment of Syrian military forces to Yemen. These sources emphasized that Syria’s current priorities include consolidating internal security, reconstruction, and achieving economic recovery.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) quoted sources stating that the existing military agreements with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are primarily related to cooperation in training, exchange of expertise, and military consultations, all aimed at serving the national interests of both countries.

The sources further explained that the agreement with Saudi Arabia is centered on training military forces and enhancing their capabilities. Coordination visits from Saudi Arabia to Syria are scheduled to commence next month. This cooperation may eventually lead to a joint defense agreement or Syria joining the Mecca Alliance, depending on common interests.

The Syrian sources reiterated that any discussion about sending Syrian military forces to Yemen is unfounded. They highlighted that Syria’s focus remains on strengthening internal security, reconstruction efforts, and economic recovery in the coming period.
