Baghdad: Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani revealed on Wednesday that Iranian officials have expressed their readiness to assist Iraq in the issue of weapons control.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Barzani made this announcement in a televised statement, emphasizing the necessity for weapons to be exclusively under the authority of the state and the command of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, who is the Iraqi Prime Minister. He stressed the importance of unity, noting that problems arise when everyone is not aligned in their efforts, whether in Baghdad, Basra, Zakho, or Duhok.

Barzani elaborated on his recent visit to Tehran, where Iranian officials conveyed their willingness to support the Iraqi Prime Minister in restricting weapons to state control. He noted that the Iranian officials expressed a commitment to assist Iraq as a neighboring country, underscoring the mutual benefits of Iraq’s stability for both nations.

Barzani also highlighted the economic ties between Iraq and Iran, mentioning that trade, including the sale of electricity and gas, generates profits exceeding $15 billion annually, illustrating the significant economic interdependence between the two countries.
