Thai police: At least 22 people were killed when a crane collapsed onto a train northeast of Bangkok, as reported by Thai police on Wednesday.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the tragic accident occurred around 9:00 AM (2:00 AM GMT) in the Sekkeo district of Nakhon Ratchasima province, approximately 230 kilometers from the Thai capital. The crane, which was part of a high-speed rail project, collided with a moving train, leading to a derailment and a brief fire outbreak.
The high-speed rail line under construction is intended to connect the Laotian border with Bangkok. The collision resulted in several fatalities, with concerns that a car carrying seven individuals had caught fire, as noted by a police spokesperson.
Rescue teams were swiftly deployed to the accident site, working diligently to free those trapped within the train’s carriages.
