The European Union Advisory Mission in Iraq welcomes its new Head Anders Vibari

Baghdad Anders Weiberg, a Swedish Senior Police Officer, has assumed his responsibilities in Baghdad as Head of the European Union Advisory Mission in Iraq which supports civil security sector reform in the country at the invitation of the Iraqi authorities.

Wiberg, Chief Superintendent of the Swedish Police Authority, which represents Sweden’s National Police and which he joined in 1991, has held several strategic management positions within this security establishment as Chief of Staff of the Anti-Organized Crime Division, Acting Chief of Operational Division and most recently as Deputy Chief of the Malmö Police Service.

He met Anders Vibari, staff of the European Union Advisory Mission in Iraq.

At the international level, Anders Vibari has extensive experience in the EU Common Security and Defense Policy civilian missions. He worked initially in 2014-2015 as Chief of Staff of the European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (EOLEX) which supports key rule of law institutions in Kosovo, then with the European Union Advisory Mission in Iraq in which he held a senior position as Chief of Operations at the start of the mission from 2017 to 2018.

On his arrival in Baghdad, Anders Vibari said, “I am very happy to return to Iraq and I know the country and its security institutions and how important the experts of the European Union Advisory Mission in Iraq and the local staff of the mission are,” stressing that cooperation with the European Union delegation and other European Union entities in the field is essential, adding I am fully convinced that together with our Iraqi counterparts and international partners, we can achieve our common goal of moving towards a democratic, transparent and effective exercise of power.”

Anders Vibari spoke about his work with the European Union Advisory Mission in Iraq, in which he held a senior position as Chief of Operations from 2017 to 2018.

The European Union advisory mission in Iraq was established in October and is based in Baghdad and has an office in Erbil, and its mandate was extended in April 2022 for another two years.
