The Minister of Trade Engages with Swedish Embassy to Boost Economic Collaboration

Baghdad: Minister of Trade Atheer Dawood Al-Ghurairi met on Tuesday with the Charg d'Affaires of the Swedish Embassy in Baghdad, J¶rgen Lindstr¶m, to discuss prospects for economic cooperation and the development of trade relations between Iraq and Sweden.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, during the meeting, the Minister highlighted the importance of enhancing bilateral relations across various sectors and opening new channels of communication to strengthen economic understanding between the two countries, serving the interests of both peoples.

He pointed out that the Ministry has launched the Commodity Structure for Exports and Imports, an advanced database that provides accurate information on Iraqi trade, including the types and quantities of goods, partner countries, and trade values. This initiative is expected to aid in formulating more effective trade policies.

The discussions also covered the potential formation of joint committees to better understand the business environment in Iraq. The aim is to increase the volume of trade and address obstacles faced by Swedish companies entering the Iraqi market.

Lindstrm conveyed Sweden's desire to enhance its presence in the Iraqi market and invest in sectors such as infrastructure. He emphasized the role of reputable Swedish companies, businesspeople, and investors in building strong economic partnerships and supporting development paths between the two countries.
