Istanbul: Turkish club Fenerbah§e is close to finalizing the signing of Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku after receiving Napoli’s approval for the player’s transfer during the current transfer window.
According to Iraqi News Agency, Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano reported that Napoli has accepted Fenerbah§e’s new offer, valued at over pound 6 million, while Lukaku has agreed to personal terms with the Turkish club. Romano explained that the agreement between the two clubs has been reached verbally so far, pending a review of the necessary documents before the deal is finalized and officially announced.
The 33-year-old Lukaku helped Napoli win the Serie A title in the 2014-2015 season, before his role with the team diminished the following season, primarily due to injuries, as he only made five league appearances. With his place in Napoli’s starting lineup diminished due to the availability of other attacking options, the club is now open to selling him for around pound 10 million. However, his annual salary, estimated at around pound 8 million, could prove to be the biggest obstacle to completing the deal.
If the transfer goes through, Lukaku would become the latest big name to join the Turkish league, following the recent move of Egyptian star Mohamed Salah to Trabzonspor.
